Birth Cards 14 and 5: Temperance and The Hierophant

Cards 14 and 5

Many people want stability and certainty. They want to keep what they have forever, or if there’s change, they want it to come gradually, not so suddenly that they can’t catch their balance. But in reality that probably can’t happen, because we can’t control everything the way we’d like.

People with 14 and 5 have principles and like order and method. Whatever they do tends to stay on track, and they rarely stray from the path. They’re also good at looking after their things and their assets, and they like doing good deeds all the time. Although people with 14 and 5 have quite a lot of principles, they can adapt them smoothly to the problem or situation. They’re also very good at coming up with new ideas from what already exists without clashing with the old.

Still, people with 14 and 5 are quite attached to material things, possessions and even beliefs. Although they can take in new opinions, they still try to keep the old ways. Or if something really has to change, they’ll try to hold it off as long as they can. Sometimes they may try to bend those opinions to fit what they think as closely as possible.

Clinging to the old can also get in the way of learning for people with 14 and 5. Instead of trying something new, they end up just sitting and thinking it over in their heads alone.

What people with 14 and 5 should understand is that everything changes with time. However lasting it seems, in the end it has to change one day. Holding on to anything too tightly makes us fall behind and stop growing. Holding firmly to principles has its good side, but wouldn’t it be better to use those principles as a foundation to build on? For example, if we believe saving money is good, wouldn’t it be better to try other ways of saving that earn more than what we’re doing now, like low-risk investments, or buying assets that keep going up in value? At heart, they’re still saving money.

Adapting to change is something people with 14 and 5 may need to work on. If you can’t change your thinking that fast, try changing slowly, trying little by little. And most importantly, actually try doing it. That’s the best way to know whether it’s good or not.

Changing slowly is surely better than not changing at all.
